Ocean Lovers to Save the Gulf of Mexico

트로피이미지

In the northern portion of the Gulf of Mexico is a large oxygen-depleted area called the “Dead Zone.” Some of the primary factors in the formation of such region are litter, agricultural debris, and fertilizers dumped in the ocean by humans. In particular, the massive oil spill in 2010 seriously damaged the marine life in the area.

Pelagic Life, a Mexican nongovernmental organization, has been taking action to raise the public awareness about pollution in the Gulf. Photographers from the group free dive in the ocean and come face-to-face with wild marine animals, such as sharks and whales, to capture images of real underwater life. Besides posting the high-quality photos and video clips online, they give presentations at TedxTalks, host exhibitions, and make documentary films on ocean life.

Pelagic Life is just one example of many organizations and individuals that are working with passion and professionalism to protect and restore marine biodiversity. Educating oneself and making informed decisions when purchasing items that may harm the environment is one good way to support the group’s efforts to preserve the ocean.
